Unlike some chat apps like Skype, Microsoft Teams can be used in a multi-window mode. Microsoft allows team users to pop-out multiple chats, share documents, or make calls in those individual windows. There are a few different ways to open the chat list in separate windows. We have listed down all the ways to pop-out chat in Microsoft Teams. Please keep in mind that this feature doesn’t work with Teams on the web (browser). Furthermore, this feature does not support Microsoft Teams Channels.
Method 1: From Chat Options
Open Microsoft Teams and go to the chat list that you can see on the left side of the application. Locate the chat/user with whom you want to initiate a chat or call in a separate window, and click on the ellipsis (…) for options. Then, click on the pop-out chat option to open the chat in a separate window. Or, you can simply double click on the chat to pop it out.
Method 2: Hover on a User to Pop-out Chat in Microsoft Teams
Hover on a chat to notice the icon. Click on the icon to open the chat in a new window.
Method 3: From the Chat Window
Notice the icon in the top right corner of the chat window and click on it. Pop-out chat in Microsoft Teams will open in a new tab.
Method 4: From the Profile Picture
Alternatively, you can double-click on the profile picture of the user with whom you want to start a conversation to open the chat in a new window.
Method 5: Using Command Box for Pop-out Chat in Microsoft Teams
Simply type and enter /pop in the command box (search bar) of Microsoft Teams. Teams then allow you to type in and select a user to pop out the chat in a new window.
